Canada immigration reforms for increasing employability for newcomers

So, Canada is going to change Canada immigration rules. Canada will, no longer, invite highly trained professionals who are likely to taste failure after coming here.

From now onwards, Canada will invite only those foreigners who either have offers of jobs in their hands or have the probability of succeeding in Canada labor market, Kenney affirmed.

Major changes in Canada immigration rules—Following are the changes in Canada immigration rules---

• Increasing minimum investment for investor immigrants(currently, minimum investment is $800,000);

• Changes to points system for Canada Skilled Workers;

• Preference to skilled trades persons.

Impact of Canada immigration changes—

• Top priority to language proficiency--New rules for Canada immigration will give priority to language proficiency while selecting potential immigrants wanting to come to Canada. Kenney has highlighted that language proficiency is the top factor for succeeding in Canada. So, only those immigrants will be allowed entry into Canada who are proficient in either English or French, the two official languages of Canada.

• Pre-assessment under Federal Skilled Worker Program—Applicants wanting to come to Canada under Federal Skilled Worker Program(FSWP) will be required to get their credentials pre-assessed to ensure their success in Canada labor market.

• Changes in Canada points system—Changes in Canada points system will enable skilled workers including welders to come to Canada even though their level of language proficiency might be lower than high-skilled professionals like a doctor.

• Streamlining of Canada permanent residency process—Canada will also change the system of Canada permanent residency for foreign students. It will help international students coming to study in Canada to become Canada permanent residents at the earliest without having to leave the nation and apply again. This will help make Canada globally competitive, Kenney informed.

Fast-track streamlined immigration for skilled tradespeople

Canada will provide a separate and a streamlined process for skilled tradespeople wanting to come to Canada, informed Kenney. This step will help in filling the gap due to increasing shortage of skilled workforce in construction, oil and mining sectors in Canada.

Currently, Western Canada and Alberta are experiencing acute labor shortages and the blame for this must go to ineffective immigration programs.

Canadian immigration programs have not been successful in addressing the shortage of skilled labor. They are not only passive but quite slow and rigid, he clarified.

The government will be changing Federal Skilled Worker Program to attract tradespeople including other   skilled professionals in high demand in the nation.

Increased role of employers in new Canada immigration process—Another vital change coming to Federal Skilled Worker Program is that employers will play an active role in recruiting prospective workers to fill vacant job positions in Canada.

New Canada immigration program for skilled tradespeople will be based directly on offers of jobs from Canadian employers, affirmed Kenney.

It will make sure that prospective immigrants possess requisite credentials as well as experience equivalent to Canada’s certification standards.

Increased focus on training, not credentials--As against the earlier requirement of possessing English or French fluency, the new immigration program will have changed rules.

Meanwhile, it will have some language requisites for applicants desirous of coming to work in Canada, Kenney maintained. And skilled tradespeople will not have to posses post-secondary degrees for immigration to Canada, he asserted.

New program aims to lure thousands of skilled workers—Aim of new Canada immigration program is to attract thousands of skilled tradespeople to come and work here. This will help in fulfilling the growing demand of skilled workers in Canada.

The demand is likely to grow considerably in the coming times, he maintained. Currently, the number of skilled workers immigrating to Canada is only 3 percent of the total foreign skilled workers coming to Canada.

So, the new process will help increase this percentage to ‘several thousand’ workers, he stated. The new Canada immigration program allowing fast-track immigration to skilled trades persons will be in place by year-end.

Canada needs skilled professionals in 2012

In the coming year, Canada will be needing around 10,000 professionals and skilled individuals to be employed at variou vacant positions of jobs in Canada. Jason Kenney, the immigration minister of Canada has intentions of inviting skilled foreigners to be recruited for such jobs.

Although, the rate of joblessness in Canada is high, but a point worth noticeable here is that Canada still has a great demand for skilled professionals because the economy is in a boom.
